Day 10 – out of NM and across North Texas
Day 10 – Sad to leave New Mexico. We pulled out of Tucumcari just after sunrise and knew it was going to be a warm day. The problem with riding in warm weather? Where to store all the long underwear, fleece pants, pullovers, neck-warmers and jackets? Plus the tape job I did on the hard case didn’t really stick so now my right case is far from water-tight. Luckily Gregg had two extra smallish dry bags so I repacked the contents of the damage case in those and we headed east on I-40 toward the Texas state line.
We arrived in Wichita Falls, TX and pulled into the Red River Harley-Davidson dealership and took a picture for Dave J. Sorry – no luck getting you a tee-shirt. They’re closed on Mondays.
Hard to believe, but 100s of miles later and both the bike and I are still covered in Cuba clay.
Decided to press on to Denton, TX and stayed at an immaculate, newly renovated Motel 6 that is much nicer than the $99/night place in Liberal, KS (the one with the swan folded towels in the bathroom). The rooms and bathroom look like something out of an IKEA catalog. Pedestal beds and sink. Flush mounted flat screen TV, etc. And for $49/night including tax w free wi-fee and a 20% discount at Denny’s next door.
So we had “date” night – took showers, put on button shirts (first time worn on this trip) and wore non-riding gear parts and boots and went to Denny’s for dinner.
Not bad for a 425+ mile day.
